Dear sisters and brothers, The European Forum of LGBT Christian Groups in collaboration with Progetto Gionata is pleased to present you the toolkit for the preparation of the vigil of prayer and meditation for the International Day against Homophobia & Transphobia 2014 on 17 May.
The group or the community you belong to is invited to mark the day with a vigil service or a prayer meeting in order to raise your voice against homophobia/transphobia and to join in a global call to pray for those societies where homosexual and transexual persons still face violence, death and discriminations and for the inclusiveness and acceptance in all societies and cultures.
The guidelines suggest a four part event symbolizing the passage from desolation and loneliness felt by whoever has been victim of homophobic attacks at least once to the acceptance and mutual love. Readings from the story of David and Goliath accompany reflections, testimonies and quotations.
Group lead primarily women may find a close correspondence in the story of Judith. The final part is dedicated to Romans, 15: 1-7, from which the official verse has been taken Accept one another just as Christ accepted you.
Groups are encouraged to enrich the vigil with personal testimonies, prayers, chanting and gestures.
We hope that you will receive a deep inspiration from this instrument and we are looking forward to see more and more groups and communities all over the world joining in the remembrance of 17 May.
